Cueva de los Verdes is part of a 6-kilometer lava tube formed by the eruption of the Monte Corona volcano over 4,000 years ago. It’s one of the longest volcanic tunnels in the world, carved by rivers of molten lava flowing toward the Atlantic Ocean.
In the 17th century, locals used the cave as a hiding place from pirate raids and slave traders. The cave's complex passages and hidden chambers made it an ideal refuge during turbulent times in Lanzarote’s history.
One of the cave’s most famous features is a visual illusion revealed during the guided tour — a stunning secret that surprises most visitors. We won’t spoil it here, but it's a must-see moment of the experience!
Cueva de los Verdes also features a natural underground auditorium, known for its incredible acoustics. Occasionally, concerts are held in this surreal setting, combining nature and culture in a truly unique way.
Visitors can join a 45-minute guided tour through the illuminated pathways of the cave. Comfortable shoes are recommended. The lighting, designed by JesĂşs Soto, creates an ethereal atmosphere that enhances the textures and colors of the lava walls.
